Inaugurated in 2006, the annual Corangamarah Art Prize was conceived to provide the newly built Corangamarah Aged Care facility in Colac with colour and life.
The notion of developing an award winning collection of art for residents was extended to creating a narrative of our time; weaving a story around present day issues to provoke discussion and be enjoyed by members of the local Colac and greater Victorian communities.
The Corangamarah Art Prize supports local community through its annual art exhibition held at Red Rock Regional Theatre and Gallery in Cororooke, Victoria.
Corangamarah offers a respectful and compassionate home like environment with a holistic approach to care and high standard of accountability, honesty and integrity.
$7,500 Acquisitive Prize
Conceit [kuh n-seet] noun
an idea that shows imagination; something that is conceived in the mind; a thought; idea; imagination; fancy.
A $7,500 acquisitive prize will be awarded to a contemporary work of art which has been inspired by a happening or experience from the preceding year – a conceit. The artist may interpret the event in any medium of two dimensional formats, illustrating the inspiration of the con.ceit in an accompanying 50 word artist statement. The winning artwork will become the property of Colac Area Health’s Corangamarah Art Prize collection.
Two further (non- acquisitive) prizes will also be awarded:
1. con.ceit’16 Small Art Prize:
all artworks less than 50 x 50cm (including frame) will be considered for this $500 prize.
2. People’s Choice Award: A one year membership to a NATIONAL ART GALLERY of the winner’s choice. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will be determined on the final day of the exhibition (Sunday 28th August) when all votes are counted.
